All vinegars no matter what form are a fermented product, common white vinegar while non-alcholic is a chemically based fermented product, it is a distillation of ingredients including the mother, and all rice vinegars are made in the same manor.
And having a number of Muslim workers and friends it is not allowed under Halal regulations for use in food products.
I worked with a very religous born again christian fellow, who swore of the evils of drink, I asked him do you gargle with mouthwash as he always had fresh breath, he said yes, I told him he was using an alcholic product, was not happy about my comment, there are now several alcohol free types.
Vinegar is not something you would drink but it has been fermented to make it pure. I ama former chef and have worked insomevarious countrys and kitchens so I have come to know about both Halal and Kosher issues for my companys.
